This post should be a minimum of 250 words total and include the following: 

• DRIVING STATEMENT: At the top of your post, include the latest version of your driving statement. Example:

  I am analyzing how social media and “maker tools” are allowing children’s education to be more creative and diverse.

• SUBCLAIMS & SUPPORTING DETAILS OUTLINE: Using the class worksheet as your guide, outline three to four subclaims and their supporting details. Here’s an example of only oneoutlined subclaim and supporting details (note that you need to post at least three of these outlines): 

  ELEMENT 1:ANALYTICAL POINT 1: STEM learning kits……give kids the confidence to be creators rather than consumers.
  SUPPORTING DETAILS
  > “Little Bits” learning kits that are affordable and teach kids engineering
  > “VEX” and “Engino” kits allow kids to build robots
  > Quote from Ayah Bdeir: “Many kids are tech-savvy, but they lack confidence that they can be creators”

• ANALYSIS PARAGRAPH: Take one of your outlined subclaims and supporting details, and compose one analysis paragraph (min. 200 words / max. 250 words) that begins with the element and analytical point of that subclaim and connects the supporting details so as to support that subclaim. Example:

            STEM learning kits give kids the confidence to be creators rather than consumers. While many of us are familiar with such toys as “Legos” and “Play-Doh,” and the fairly common use of these toys within our children’s schools, such learning tools are much more available and dynamic in our current tech-driven society. Whether it be the “Little Bits” learning kits that are a kind of “Lego” set for building a circuit board, or the “VEX” and “Engino” robotics learning kits that “are designed to be easy for young students to use right out of the box,” such invention-based and hands-on learning is more accessible in today’s schools than ever before (“VexRobotics”). To help teachers, these learning kits often include curriculum guides for educators, featuring lesson plans and supporting YouTube videos (“VexRobotics”). What’s more is that there is a network of homegrown workshops based around these learning kits that students and educators can connect to beyond or the classroom. The importance of this is not just flashy new tools, but that such learning kits and workshops provide kids with a sense of confidence that enables them to express their own creativity. As Ayah Bdeir, creator of the “Little Bits” learning kit states, “[m]any kids are tech-savvy, but they lack confidence that they can be creators” (Popular Science). In turn, moving beyond the memorization and multiplication tables of our past, such learning kit technology is allowing our schools to provide more applicable skills to our unknown future.
