The world ofwork is constantly evolving. Technological advances, globalisation and automation all contribute to changes in the way we work. Careers are dynamic and can include changing employers, occupations, and industries (Arthur and Rosseau, 1996).

Increasingly, the onus ison the individual to take ownership of their own career (ratherthan an employer doing so). The individual needs totake responsibility for their own development and progression throughan awareness of values and their own drivers (Hall, 1976).

To have a career that is sustainable throughout the lifespan, it is vital that the individual understands what factors motivate them to pursue a specific role, the labour market and industry they are going into, challenges and opportunities that they will face and what practical steps they can feasibly take to successfully advance in their career.
