2 Responses Needed (Response # 1) What motivational techniques might you use to encourage your staff to embrace change and engage in the ongoing process of process improvement? It can be difficult for a leader to motivate staff who have fallen into a state of complacency. When staff members become overly comfortable or unhappy, their desire to succeed may subside over time. However, supervisors will need to counteract these negative behaviors by thinking outside of the box (McQuerrey, 2016). Motivation is an ongoing process that involves originality and effort. Managers cannot expect that staff members will remain motivated without any form of incentive. The first step is creating a positive environment where staff members feel they are appreciated. Unappreciated staff who are not acknowledged will feel less inclined to perform their duties. Managers have the important responsibility of creating an optimistic environment which motivates an individual to perform their duties (McQuerrey, 2016). This particular feat can be challenging in the healthcare field. Healthcare professionals deal with a variety of issues, to include dealing with human emotion and loss of life. This type of environment can become quite taxing on an individual after an extended period of time. Sooner or later an individual may unfortunately begin to feel burnt out. Another simple tool a strong leader can utilize in order to foster motivation is setting realistic and attainable goals (Beck, 2012). A leader who overwhelms their staff will only create an environment filled with negativity and animosity. Leaders must also be willing to demonstrate specific competencies. Individuals do not want to follow a leader who is disorganized, flustered, and easily overwhelmed. A healthcare facility must be managed by an individual who is able to take responsibility for their actions (Beck, 2012). There are unique ways to motivate employees without force or coercion (Hiring Thing, 2016). Some useful methodologies include increasing motivation through the use of incentive based programming. Financial incentives are some of the tools which can motivate employees to perform to the maximum extend feasible (Lipman, 2013). Issuing out bonuses on a quarterly basis to employees to have gone above and beyond sets a solid precedence for other individuals. These types of incentive awards allow for individuals to recognize that their efforts matter. Nonfinancial incentives can include time-off awards for those who have worked hard during strenuous times. Celebrating an employee’s achievements is arguably one of the best ways to motivate an individual to perform to the best of their ability. It is also critical to recognize team accomplishments as well as individual achievements (Hiring Thing, 2016). References Beck, J. (2012). 10 Techniques to Increase Motivation and Willpower. Create Necessity – this is having the staff incorporate change and the reasoning why it is necessary for the change 2. Influential Alliance – this step indicates that is imperative to have the right people in the correct places for leadership. 3. Have a view for Modification – this step is to show employees that change is good for the growth of the company as well as each other. 4. Extract Interference – this step Kotter addresses that fact that not every person would be open to the ideas of change and that some might need more convincing than others. 5. Small Wins – this is an essential part of implementing change is to show the progression with the adaption 6. The Structure of the change- Kotter disputes that change that indicates a win to early can cause in a fail for management with progression moving backwards 7. Concentrate on the change and keep inspiring to see the results 8. Support the change – this step indicates that change is an everyday process and that change does not happen over night that it does take time I will Pay $10 For These Two Responses.
