I need at least 150-word comment on my class mate’s discussion Hiring the Best Kevin, The competition between public and private sector on staffing and recruitment of employees is on the increase today. Hence, finding a potential employee who is qualified and perfect for the job requires employing methods and strategies that work well to attract the right people with experience and proper skill sets to ensure quality service delivery. As an HR professional, there are specific processes that I would recommend organizations to use to find perfect and fitting candidates not only for a position that is currently open but also for an advanced role in future for the company (University of California, 2017). The first step would be to identify the skills and job attribute you are seeking in a new staff. Then, determine the most efficient way to assess the applicants (University of California, 2017). These techniques can be through interviews, evaluating written materials, checking work samples, and reference checking. While the interview is a primary way to source information about the candidate, a job reference may be a useful way to learn about the candidate’s dependability, resourcefulness, and ability to relate to other workers. Written materials, on the other hand, provide insight on an applicant’s skills, educational background, and work experience. Finally, by putting the candidate through some tests, you may be able to see and evaluate their work samples and decide whether they are qualified for a particular position (University of Oregon, n.d.). Once all these are done, you can then take time to check references and make a hiring decision. The decision making can be achieved by reviewing all information gathered about the candidates. You then have to rate the applicant’s suitability and job-related skills relative to the department they are to be allocated. In case two candidates are both qualified for a single position then affirmative action should be taken (University of Oregon, n.d.). This can be by giving preferences to women, the disabled, or minority candidates. Alternatively, you can schedule an additional interview or carry out further reference checks.
